If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) and are scheduling a lip enhancement, it’s advised that you to use anti-herpes medication such as Zovirax ointment that can be obtained from a pharmacy. Use the medication for 1-week prior and 1-week after your appointment up to 5 times a day to reduce the incidence of an outbreak by 50%. Oral anti-herpes medication (Acyclovir) will control the incidence of an outbreak more or less completely. PMU does not cause cold sores, however, if you carry the virus, it lays dormant in the nervous system and can be aroused by the infusion process.
AFTER CARE:
DAYS 1-4:
Every 3-4 hours wipe lips with distilled/bottled water; wipe off lymph(clear fluid)
Air dry lips DO NOT pat dry. Then apply ointment right after.
During the first 4 days of healing, beginning immediately after your tattoo, you may experience the following symptoms:
-Swelling and redness
-Tenderness
-Flaking
-Mild itchiness
-Dry skin (may remain for up to 3 weeks)
DAYS 3-7:
-Apply Healing ointment all the time; every morning and night until lips heal(approximately 1-2 weeks) DO NOT allow lips to become dry
-No lip-make up for 1 week other than healing ointment (no lipstick no lipgloss)
-No scratching, picking, licking of dry or flaking skin (it can cause scarring)
-No spicy, greasy, salty, or oily food for 48 hours
-No kissing, smoking, or rubbing, it can cause irritation (for 1 week)
-No extreme sweating for 5 days

-No UV exposure sun tanning bed for 10 days
-Try to drink out of straws
-Light flaking/peeling of the skin on the lips will begin during days 3-5.
-DO NOT PICK, PEEL OR RUB your lips as this may prematurely remove color which will cause your lips to heal unevenly. Allow the color to flake away by itself.
These symptoms are a normal part of the healing process. During the first two days, you may apply clean, disposable cold packs to your lips as necessary to reduce any swelling. Lightly pat the lips with sterile water only.
LONG TERM AFTER-CARE:
-If Client wishes to do Botox or lip fillers, they must wait 4 weeks post procedure
-If Client is undergoing an MRI or laser treatment, they must inform the technician of cosmetic tattoo procedures. Laser procedure may darken/lighten or distort pigment of lip color
